Courses

The youth service offer a great number of accredited courses for young people in Darlington.  These courses are based on issues that young people face today and are developed by trained youth workers and young people

Accredited Peer Education Training

This course is aimed at young people aged 13-19 years old, It is a Level one OCN (Open College Network) Course which lasts for 12 weeks, made up of one hour sessions per week

The objectives of the sessions is to become a trained Peer Educator, to gain a variety of skills such as: Communication skills, Team building skills etc... and to gain a greater awareness of the issues that young people face today.

Accredited School Council Training

This course is aimed at young people aged 11-19 years old, It is a School Councils Uk training package (SCHUK), 6 week course made up of 1 hour sessions per week

The objectives of the training is to become a trained school youth council to make a more effective and active school council so that young people can become key decision makers within the school

Recently Longfield school were voted the top school council in Darlington, beat them to the top with some top quality training!

Non Accredited Issue Based Training

This course is aimed at 11-19 year olds, the sessions are based on the citizenship curriculum; Bullying, Sex & relationships etc... To enable young people to become an informed citizen, and to gain a variety of skills greater awareness of young peoples issues.

Accredited Peer Mentoring Training

This course is aimed at young people 13 years and over, It is a Level 1 OCN Course, which is 12 weeks long and made up of 1 hour sessions, to become a trained Peer Mentor, to gain a variety of skills such as communication skills and active listening skills  to support other young people in their school - Check out the Good Practise page to hear some of the positive comments from this kind of training

Accredited Introduction to Youth Work Course

This course is available to young people aged 16 years and over, it is a Level 1 OCN qualification made up of 12 weeks of training at 1 hour sessions per week. This course is to give a greater understanding of youth work in general, and develop people interpersonal skills and awareness of young peoples issues

Accredited Sexual Health Training

This course is available to young people aged 14-19 years old, it is designed to give young people a greater awareness and education of the issues surrounding sexual health, the course is 10 weeks long and made up of 1 hour sessions per week.

Accredited Bullying Course

This course is designed for young people to gain a better understanding of Bullying and the issues surrounding it, it highlights reasons behind bullying and support for this, this is also OCN Accredited and is 10 weeks long, the course is 10 weeks long and made up of 1 hour sessions per week.

Accredited Drug Awareness Course

This course is a very popular training package which we deliver... It is surrounding the Issues of Drugs awareness and we look at the effects and the issues surrounding drug use and misuse, this is accredited through OCN and is made up of 1 hour sessions for 10 weeks

Accredited Gambling Course

This course is aimed at young people aged 14-19, It will be a Level 1 OCN accredited course made up of 10 weeks of continuous training with sessions lasting 1 hour.  The objectives of the course are to raise awareness  of the dangers surrounding gambling  and the issues surrounding addiction. 

Non Accredited Volunteer Training

This course is aimed at young people and adults which will undertake 2 sessions at 3 hours per session, the sessions will cover youth work understanding and awareness of young peoples issues and develop their interpersonal skills. 

Accredited DJ Skills Course

This course is available to young people aged 14 onwards It is a 6 week course accredited by OCN, and the sessions are 2 hours long per week, the course aims to develop young people and help them understand the Health & Safety in DJ equipment, and learn new or develop skills further with practical DJ Experience

Duke of Edinburgh Award

This well known award is recognised well by most employers, this is delivered through schools, youth projects or the Open award centre.  For more information please see the Duke Of Edinburgh Page

Youth Challenges

This award is open for the young people who are not old enough to qualify for YAA or Duke Of Edinburgh, this course is delivered through school and youth projects, the course is leaded by Area Training & Accreditation Workers

Youth Achievement Awards

This award is available to young people aged 14-25, which will be delivered through the Training & Accreditation team Area worker
