Click……….for everything to do! (A.K.A – Youth Offer)

Hopefully you will have heard of a youth initiative call the Youth Offer launched last April, which basically means Darlington Borough Council has to:
• Understand what young people like to do and where they like to do it!
• Produce a big list of all the activities happening in Darlington for young people, regardless of who makes it happen!
• Make sure that all young people in Darlington know about this list and how to access the activities!
• Involve young people in helping us do all of the above!

What’s happened so far…………….well so far a group of young people from across Darlington has been working on various aspects of this initiative such as collecting information on what activities are already happening, organising various events and talking to other groups of young people about their idea’s.

However they have mainly been focusing on changing the name to something a bit more catchy. ‘Click……for everything to do!’ was chosen as this will be the aim of the website being created to hold the list of activities happening in Darlington.  Using the new name they worked with a graphic designer to create three logo’s. Before Christmas young people were asked to vote on which logo they preferred and the winning one can be seen here.

What’s next………well the group will be helping us to design the web-site so it’s vibrant, exciting and informative, checking to see that we have details of all the activities happening in Darlington for young people and planning the following event:

Click in the Park –

Saturday 12 April 2008   South Park   12pm till 7pm

Between 12pm and 4pm you will have the opportunity to try out a variety of activities such as rugby, archery, cheerleading, graffiti workshops and try to reach the top of climbing wall. If that’s to energetic you could visit our music chill out tent or listen to a live acoustic session from the park’s band stand.

Between 4pm and 7pm the tempo pick up as the rE-view project host the first heat of their Battle of the Bands concert. Here you’ll have the opportunity to listen to four of the finest bands from Darlington and a yet to be confirmed headline act!

How can you help……………you could join the group and help with any of the above tasks (oh they also do other fun things like go bowling, for pizza or ice-skating!), send details of what activities your involved in so we can check they have been included on the web-site or send us idea’s of what other activities you’d like to see happening in Darlington.

It would be great to hear from you so either give me a call on  (01325) 346459 or drop me an e-mail Joanne.king@darlington.gov.uk
