Raising of the Participation Age
The Government has changed the law so that all young people in England who leave school after July 2013 will have to continue in education or training until their 18th birthday. This does not mean young people must stay in school; they will be able to choose one of the following options:
- Full-time education, such as school, college or other training provider
- Work-based learning, such as an Apprenticeship
- Part-time education or training if they are employed, self-employed or volunteering for more than 20 hours a week.
A strategy and action plan have been produced to support the move towards full participation for 16 to 17 year olds.
