Functional Skills

Are your English, maths and ICT a little rusty? Take the opportunity to improve your skills and achieve a recognised Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 qualification (equivalent to a GCSE) and learn in a supportive, friendly, small class sized environment.

You can join a Functional Skills course at any time during the year. The length of the course varies according to the personal needs of each learner. Before attending the course every learner needs to complete an initial assessment to check existing level.

All Functional Skills courses are free. 

Initial assessments are held at:

  • The Coleridge Centre, Mondays 15.00 - 17.00 for Maths and English
  • Crown Street Library, Saturdays 13.30 - 15.30 for ICT

GCSEs

GCSE English and maths one year courses are available to adults. There will be 3 hours tuition for Maths and 3 hours tuition for English plus 3 hours home study per week.

Please note: If you have grade A* - C, the fee for a re-sit is £200.

* The course will be £60, however this will be fully refunded once you have completed the course and taken the exam. 

GCSE exams for 2017/2018 will take place on the following dates:

  • Thursday 24th May 2018 - GCSE Mathematics Paper 1 (Non-Calculator)
  • Thursday 7th June 2018 - GCSE Mathematics Paper 2 (Calculator)
  • Tuesday 12th June 2018 - GCSE Mathematics Paper 3 (Calculator)
  • Tuesday 5th June 2018 - GCSE English Language Paper 1 
  • Friday 8th June 2018 - GCSE English Language Paper 2 
  • There is also an GCSE English non exam assessment which will be due in by May 2018
