Additional Learning Support

We encourage all learners to let us know about any support needs as soon as possible in order to make the transition to your new course as smooth as possible.  An adviser or tutor will discuss options with you. We may need to do some assessments at the start of the course to make sure you are on the right course and that you have the support you need.

For young people making a transition from school, transition information may identify learners with special educational needs or disabilities so that our learning mentor can have an early discussion with you about your needs.

We offer a wide range of support including:

  • Small group tuition
  • One-to-one support
  • Support with organisational skills, study techniques and memory recall skills
  • Mentoring
  • Specialist equipment such as hearing loop and computer readers
  • Large print materials
  • Special arrangements for examinations
  • Assistance if you have medical needs, a physical disability, sensory impairment, or emotional and mental health difficulties

Preparing for Adulthood

All young people studying at Learning & Skills, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, are supported to develop their independence and employability skills as they move towards adulthood. Through work experience and enrichment activities, they learn how to keep themselves safe, make healthy lifestyle choices and to become active members of the community.
