EMTAS (Ethnic Minority & Traveller Achievement Service)
Darlington schools celebrate and support a diverse pupil community. We offer a responsive reflective support service to ensure that all children have an opportunity to enjoy success.
Support for schools includes
- Targeted teacher and bilingual classroom assistant support to meet the needs of pupils with English as an Additional Language
- Targeted support for children from traveller families.
- Advice and support to schools on raising the achievement of minority ethnic groups and children from traveller families at particular risk of underachievement.
- Training and resources to promote multicultural education and tackle racism in schools
- The assessment , monitoring and recording of progress for children from traveller families and pupils with English as an Additional Language, including new arrivals.
- Support and advice on monitoring achievement by ethnicity and gender and strategies
- to raise achievement.
A resource centre to support schools in developing a multicultural curriculum.
- Provision of professional development for staff on the following areas:
- Race equality and tackling racial harassment.
- Responding to the recommendations for Education following the enquiry into the death of Stephen Lawrence.
- English as an additional language, bilingualism and linguistic diversity.
