Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

What is a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)?

The Government's National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires local planning authorities to prepare Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments (SHLAA). The SHLAA provides an assessment of the potential of a Local Authority area to accommodate housing development over the Local Plan period. It provides an assessment of the suitability, availability and achievability of potential new housing sites and informs housing and planning policy.
