Planning fees and admin charges

Planning fees differ, depending on the nature and type of application; some are free. Charges are set nationally by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

A completed application fee form [pdf document] should accompany your payment. If you have received a set of application forms from us, one of these forms will have been included. Otherwise, it can be downloaded here and printed out.

Your application will not been progressed until the correct fee has been paid. You will receive a letter which will formally acknowledge receipt of the application, or explain why it is invalid.

If you believe your application qualifies for a fee waiver please state your reasons using the application fee form [pdf document] or in a separate written statement.

There is no VAT on planning application fees.

Methods of payment

Cheques should be made payable to Darlington Borough Council and either posted to Town Hall, Darlington DL1 5QT or delivered by hand at the Customer Service Centre.

Credit card payments are accepted, either over the telephone (01325 406479, 406742, 406480) or in person at the Customer Service Centre.
