Stop smoking

It's estimated that one in five adults in Darlington smoke, and that around two-thirds of these smokers want to quit. Around 9000 children take up smoking every year in our region, and over 13,000 have to have hospital or GP treatment as a result of breathing in second-hand smoke.

Public health, sexual health and contraceptive services

Sexual Health provision from 1 August 2016

CASH clinics [external link] will provide from 1 August 2016. All clinics offer drop in and booked appointments.

A centralised booking line has been established and will be operational from 1 August 2016 telephone 01325 952277.

  • Community Pharmacists will continue to provide Free Emergency Oral Hormonal Contraception.
  • GUM services at Darlington Memorial Hospital will continue to be provided.
  • GPs will continue to offer contraception to their patients.

Any new registrations from 15 February will receive a temporary C Card that looks slightly different to the current ones. Don’t worry these will be accepted at all outlets in Darlington.

Where can I get advice and testing about Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)?

The GUM service at Darlington Memorial Hospital provides free, confidential STI advice, testing, treatment and support to people of all ages. For details about opening times and appointments contact: 01325 743203 or clink on this link [pdf document]

Under 25s can access STI advice, testing and treatment from the Young Peoples sessions at the Dolphin Centre (Every Monday 12.30 – 2.30) and at the Darlington College drop ins.

Darlington became a Heart Town in 2012. This is a five-year scheme where we work alongside the British Heart Foundation [external link] to help make people aware of heart health, as well as put on keep-fit activities such as the Darlington heart walk and cycling festival.
