A small group of young and not so younger people have been working on this exciting project over the last year that has used creative media to explore intergenerational issues.
The project has been supported by and involved residents from several Community Partnership areas across Darlington, the Youth Service and GOLD (Growing Older Living In Darlington).
With the help of a community artist from ‘Scruff Productions’ and ‘Darlington Media Workshop‘ a resource pack has been developed that includes a short film of discussions, comedy sketches and other electronic resources to help kick start future intergenerational work in Darlington.
The resource pack provides groups with tools and templates to work with people of different ages think about intergenerational issues, break down barriers, build relationships and raise issues around stereotyping.
The resource pack is available for anyone to borrow from Darlington libraries and can also be downloaded from this page. You can also request members of the intergenerational project group come and do a short taster session with your group by contacting intergenerationalproject@darlington.gov.uk
How the project started...
The Darlington Intergenerational Project started in early 2006 from a discussion held by the Community Partnerships, the Youth Service and GOLD, who all wanted to get older and younger people in some of the different communities in Darlington to try to understand and appreciate each other better.
From these early meetings with workers, the project started to take shape and members for the new group were recruited from five of the different Community Partnership areas across the town.
