In some areas of the town, residents can pay a fee that allows them to use resident parking spaces near their house. Only residents with a permit may park in these areas.
Enforcement is carried out between 8am to 6pm every day including bank holidays.
Parking in one of these spaces without displaying a valid permit is an offence. There are a few exceptions to this rule, including parking by emergency vehicles and loading/unloading from vehicles to a nearby property (this must be observed by a civil enforcement officer).
Permits are not issued to residents’ visitors. There are either areas of unrestricted, limited time or pay and display parking available for non-permit holders in every street within the zone.
A one off temp 3 month permit may be issued to a relative of a indisposed resident if they are required to care for them. Evidence may be required and a charge is applicable for more information please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Applying for a permit
If you live within an area covered by the scheme, you can apply for a permit. You will need to go to the customer contact centre at the Town Hall with the following documents:
- V5 Vehicle Log Book
- Proof of residency (for example: a utility bill)
Once you have received your permit you will get sent a reminder a few weeks before the permit is due to run out telling you to renew.
If you have a company vehicle you will need to provide a) proof of residency and b) letter from your employer that you are the main user of the vehicle and that it is parked overnight at your property.
If you have a lease vehicle you will need to provide a) proof of residency and b) the leasing agreement that states your name, address and vehicle registration. If the lease agreement does not state the vehicle registration then a separate letter from the leasing company will also be required that states the vehicle registration of the lease vehicle that is leased to you.

Change of vehicle
To change your vehicle please bring your current permit to the town hall customer contact centre with your new vehicle Vc5 registration document. If you do NOT have this document we still require the permit and supporting evidence that you have obtained a new vehicle i.e. insurance document/cover note/invoice which is in the permit holders name and address. Permission to park in the resident permit zone will be given for 3 weeks to allow time for the new Vc5 document to arrive. This permission can be extended if there is a delay, permission to park will not be granted if the permit has expired. There is no charge to change a vehicle.
Foreign Vehicle Plate
If your vehicle has not been registered with the DVLA you cannot purchase a 6 or 12 month resident permit. You can purchase a one off 3 month permit to give you time to register your vehicle. To obtain this permit please go to the town hall customer centre with proof you own the vehicle and a recent household bill (dated within the last 6 months) - Please note all documentation must be in the same name.
