Residents permits details

There are 16 residents permit zones located in Darlington.

A fee is payable within most of the zones.

Permits are only available to people who live in the streets located within the zones.

Permits are virtual e-permits unless stated otherwise.

There are three types of residents permits.

Residents standard permit

A permit for a vehicle that you park at your address.

Temporary permit

A one-off 3 month permit.

This permit is if you have just moved address or bought a new vehicle and as yet the vehicle is not yet registered at the new address.

You will still need to provide proof you own the vehicle such as a sales invoice from the place of purchase.

Transferrable permit

A paper permit which can be used in different vehicles.

This is for residents who regularly use hire cars or different vehicles for work.

You will need to provide a letter from your employer to confirm this.

If you are a tradesperson working at a resident’s home and there is no alternative parking, you can purchase £5, 24-hour parking waivers to enable you to park in the permit bay.

We do not issue visitor permits as there are areas of either unrestricted, limited time or pay and display parking available for non-permit holders in every street within every zone.

In exceptional circumstances, a one-off temporary 3-month permit may be issued to a relative of a resident if they are required to care for them.

Evidence may be required, and a charge is applicable.

These will be considered on an individual basis. For more information please email [email protected].

Proofs of ID

Permit applications are made online. You will need to provide proof of residency (dated within the last 12 months) and your vehicle Vc5 registration document.

You will need to upload these documents. Instructions on how to do so are on the online permit application.

If you have a company vehicle you will need to provide proof of residency and a letter from your employer that you are the main user of the vehicle and it is parked overnight at your property.

If you have a lease vehicle you will need to provide proof of residency and the leasing agreement that states your name, address and vehicle registration.

If the lease agreement does not state the vehicle registration then a separate letter from the leasing company will also be required showing the specific vehicle that is leased to you.

How much does it cost?

Payment for your permit is required up front. You can pay online with a debit or credit card.

  • 12 months permit - £40
  • 6 months permit - £24
  • 3 months temporary permit - £12 (one off issue)

Where can I park?

Your street will be listed in a specific zone and your permit will allow you to park in any street within that zone.
