Darlington to celebrate Darlington Football Club Promotion

On Friday 29 April Darlington will celebrate the promotion of Darlington Football Club with at an event in the Market Square. It is hoped that hundreds of fans will turn out to celebrate with Martin Gray, the players and the management team on Friday evening between 6.15 and 7.30pm.

The event will be hosted by Star Radio and will include the squad arriving in an open top bus, which is leaving Blackwell Meadows at 6.15pm and arriving in the Market Square at 6.30pm.

The evening’s celebrations will be started with talented 12 year old singer Olivia Kate Smith, who will be on stage from 6.15pm. The Mayor, Councillor Tom Nutt, will then welcome the club back to the town and congratulate them on their success.

STAR Radio Breakfast’s Tim Lichfield will interview the club live on stage, and fans will have the chance to take pictures of the team with their well-deserved trophy.

Darlington Football Club Manager Martin Gray said: "It's a great honour for the club to be asked to bring the Trophy to the Market Square, and to allow our supporters a close up view of it. We hope lots of people come along and that it's a great evening. Thanks to everyone who has organised it."

Councillor Bill Dixon, Leader of Darlington Borough Council said: “Darlington Football Club have performed brilliantly over the past four seasons, as can be seen by their results. I’m pleased the town is to be given the chance to celebrate the team in style.”

The event is to celebrate the achievements of Darlington Football Club who have just won the Northern Premier League, Premier Division. The team have been promoted three times in four seasons, and next season will be entering the National League North. They clinched the title by winning 7-1 at Whitby, scoring six goals in the first half.

East Row, Horsemarket and Bull Wynd will be closed entirely, and Tubwell Row will be closed on the westbound carriageway from the western side of the junction with Churchrow to the West side of the junction with East Row for the event from 4pm -8pm on Friday.
