‘Grand Day Out’ on offer at Head of Steam
Visitors can enjoy a ‘Grand Day Out’ as the Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum hosts a special event to celebrate its Victorian roots.
The museum will be hosting a Victorian Fun Day on Sunday 25 September, 10am-4pm, harking back to the era when the former North Road Station was built, in 1842, to serve the Stockton and Darlington Railway Line.
A packed programme of activities has been put together offering something for all the family to enjoy including mini train rides, face painting and Victorian-themed arts and crafts.
There will also be a traditional Punch and Judy Show, a Flea Circus, magic show and balloon modelling as well as a special Victorian-themed trail around the museum.
Sarah Gouldsbrough, Acting Manager at the Head of Steam, said:
“The Victorian age was a time when travel by rail was hugely popular and Queen Victoria was the first British monarch to travel by train in 1842 – on the line which ran between London and Windsor.
“As well as the building itself, many of the exhibits in the museum date back to this era and we thought a Victorian theme was a great way to encourage visitors to explore the museum and have some fun at the same time.”
Entrance is just £1 and is free for family membership pass holders.
