Darlington Dance Festival - Get Darlo Dancing!

Darlington Dance Festival - Get Darlo Dancing!
06 September 2016

Darlington Dance Festival Association is a voluntary group which comes together to organise two fantastic annual events. July brings our dance schools and community groups together to perform one mass dance that is choreographed by Debbie Harbin of the D project and Darrien Wright of Dance Wright Studios. July saw 700 dancers strut their stuff in the Market Square.

Dancers gathered in the Market Square again last week to launch the promotion of Dance Festival’s showcase 2016. This year’s theme is ‘Reinvented’ - something new with a twist. Each local dance school, community group and the ‘winners’ of the primary schools dance festival each get to showcase their talents in a themed piece.

The showcase event is on Monday 12 September 6.30pm in the main hall, Dolphin Centre.

Darrien Wright of Dance Wright Studio said:

“This is an amazing event not be missed that shows off what outstanding talented dancers we have in Darlington.”

Joanne Scott Secretary of the Dance Festival Association said:

“Darlington is so lucky to have so much talent and to have an event like this that brings everyone together as one community. All the groups and dance schools involved both young and older have worked extremely hard putting together their ‘reinvented’ dances for this showcase event, I can’t wait to see them all. This will be a fantastic event for all the family to enjoy.”

Marion Ogle Chair of the Dance Festival Association said:

“The festival’s showcase event will be amazing as always as we have so much exciting and talented dancers to show off. The Dance Festival Association together with the dance schools have worked tirelessly keeping this event running, fundraising and organising. All the money raised from the ticket sales goes back in the pot for the next year so we are hoping for a sell out!”

The Dance schools and groups taking part are Toni’s Academy of Dance, Keep Fit Association, Tiffany School of Dance, Joanne Lowe School of Dance, Stage, Hurworth  Street dance, Sonya Marie Academy of Dance , Texas Toe Tappers, Rachel Coad School of Dance, Happy Tappers – Featuring Cockerton Prize Silver Band, Red Hall Dance Company, Pierremont School of Dance, St John’s CE Primary Academy, Leaps and Beatz, Seven Performance Company,  Rachel V Harrison School of Dance, ArtsSpark and Dance Wright Studio.

The event will also see representatives from the dance schools performing the ‘Mass Dance’ and also dancers coming together to perform a tribute dance choreographed by Darrien Wright to the victims of the Orlando shooting.
