Greetings from Darlington

Greetings from Darlington
12 September 2016

‘Greetings from Darlington’ is the title of the latest display on show at the Centre for Local Studies.

Running throughout September the display showcases some of the postcards stored in the Darlington Library collection and features many of the town’s landmarks.

The Centre for Local Studies at Darlington Library has more than 40,000 images of Darlington and the surrounding area, and a significant part of the collection is comprised of postcards.

In this latest display visitors can see not only the lovely view depicted on the front of the postcard but also the message on the reverse.

Mandy Fay, Senior Library Officer at Darlington Libraries, said:

“Postcards are a great resource for local and family historians alike. If you are lucky enough to come across any sent to or from your ancestors they could provide you with the kind of details you wouldn’t find in any official documents; where they holidayed or who their friends were for example.

“They offer a colourful and fascinating insight into our past and we hope visitors will enjoy the selection we have put together for our latest display.”
