Do you have what it takes to be the next Stella McCartney or James Dyson?

Have you been struggling to find the perfect winter coat which is warm while also keeping you safe in the darker winter nights? Do you have teenagers and know how hard it is to get them to wear anything other than black? Have you got some great original ideas which you could translate into designs? If so you could be entered into a competition to win £250 which you could choose to spend on the perfect bright winter coat, a shiny new bike, or whatever takes your fancy.

Local Motion and Connect Tees Valley are looking for people with a creative flair to enter a safety conscious design competition.

Members of the public are invited to design a piece of outerwear aimed at walkers or cyclists which would increase the wearer’s visibility. Entrants could choose to design a piece of clothing for the elderly, commuters, young children or teenagers or design an accessory for walkers or cyclists.

Competition entries will be judged by a panel consisting of Colin Robertson - Managing Director of Blumilk marketing, communications and branding agency in Newcastle; Kevin Killcullen, Managing Director of Wheel Education, a Tees Valley based cycling and scooter training provider; Clint Vosloo, Altura Brand Director at Zyro, the leading Tees Valley based distributor of cycling accessories, clothing and bicycles to the UK and Irish cycling markets and Felicity Machnicki of Local Motion.

Sustainable Transport Manager, Sue Dobson commented “Over the past 2 years, whilst running our Travel Safely This Winter campaign, it has been apparent that it is very difficult to find everyday clothing which is designed to increase visibility whilst also being attractive and functional to wear. As a result last winter we launched a competition to colleges across the Tees Valley, inviting students to submit designs which would increase the visibility of certain groups of people in the darker winter months.”

Clint Vosloo, Altura Brand Director at Zyro added “The quality of the winning entry last year, submitted by Charlotte Lee from Cleveland College of Art and Design, was fantastic. This year the competition has been opened up to public and we are looking forward to seeing the creative talents of the residents of the Tees Valley.”
