STEM Hopetown

A huge STEM event was held at Hopetown Darlington on 14th and 15th October!

A hands-on STEM exhibition was held as part of the celebrations of the bicentary of the birth of the railways. It was full of exciting and engaging interactive STEM activities.

This event aimed to encourage and inspire young people from Darlington and local schools in STEM subjects. It was open to groups from state funded schools in:

  • Primary - years 5 and 6
  • Secondary - years 7 and 8

The event was held over two days and was fully booked. Schools were not charged for attending the exhibition.

Around 40-50 North East companies delivered hands-on activities, showcasing the wide range of careers and job roles available in the STEM sector in our region. We were delighted to announce that Cummins Engines in Darlington agreed to headline sponsor the event.

Businesses were invited to deliver fun, interactive sessions relating to their industry. Around 2000 young people aged from 10-13 years from the region's schools attended the event across the two days.

This face to face event was held at the award winning visitor experience Hopetown Darlington. The whole site was secured for the event to provide an access all areas unique opportunity for schools to visit.
