Who are our children?
Children In Our Care
We have statutory responsibility to promote positive educational outcomes for all children in the care of DBC Local Authority, aged 2-18, regardless of where the live or are educated within the UK.
All children and young people must have a Personal Education Plan (PEP) each term. This is a statutory process and forms the education element of the care planning for the child. This should be high quality and strive for the very best for each child, both academically and pastorally. More information about PEPs can be found here.
Children Previously in Our Care/ Previously Looked After (PLAC)
We have a statutory responsibility to offer advice and guidance to educational settings within Darlington Local Authority for children who have been adopted, who are living under a Special Guardianship Order or Child Arrangement’s Order.
Designated teachers have a duty to oversee the educational achievement of PLAC young people if the school is aware of this. Schools are also eligible to receive funding for PLAC young people.
Further information can be found via Adoption Tees Valley [external link] or by emailing [email protected]
Children with a social worker
We have a statutory responsibility to take a strategic leadership role for children with a social worker across all education phases to create a culture of high aspirations so that children and young people reach their potential- this includes children and young people on a Child In Need or Child Protection Plan.
