Course summary
This course is for people who would like to develop their knowledge of mental health in the workplace and require the qualification for their current role. You will explore mental health, how to support individuals with poor mental health and how to create a healthy environment in terms of mental wellbeing. As this course is taught online, you can learn in your own time and set your own deadlines.
Who is this course for?
This qualification is suitable for learners who wish to raise awareness of mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental health. This qualification gives learners the opportunity to understand mental health, its associated care and how this can be applied to learners or colleagues in the workplace
What entry requirements do I need to start the course?
- Aged 19+
- Have the right to live and work in the UK. Has been a UK or EU resident for the previous three years
- Must live in the Darlington, Tees Valley, North Yorkshire or non devolved local authority areas
- It is recommended that you currently hold, or are working towards, an English qualification at around GCSE old grade C/new grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2
What is the curriculum intent of this course?
The intent of this qualification is to give learners the skills to support colleagues with mental health problems. These skills will be gained by increasing the learner’s knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions and the principles of mental health first aid and how this can be implemented in the workplace.
What will the course cover?
The course will cover three sections:
Unit 1: Exploring mental health
Unit 2: Understanding how to support individuals with mental ill health
Unit 3: Understand a mental healthy environment
What could I do when I have finished this course?
You could progress onto one of our many other courses, depending on your pathway of choice: upskill your functional skills with our Maths, English or ICT courses, develop your ICT skills for the workplace or you may decide to complete any of the other Distance Learning or CPD courses that will be made available to you to support your pathway within or towards employment.
Where and when will I learn?
- You will learn in your own time to set deadlines.
- This course will take place online via our online portal. You will receive your login details during enrolment.
- This course will compose of four mandatory classroom based sessions. Dates are TBC. The remainder of the course will take place online via our online portal, you will learn from home in your own time.

- Access to the internet
- Access to an internet-enabled device (PC, Laptop or iPad/Tablet - smart phones are not suitable for this course)
- Note pad and pend to the classroom sessions
