Courses for young people aged 16-18 years
We offer a range of courses to help young people prepare for adulthood, gain new skills and increase in confidence.
These range from entry level courses to level 2 (GCSE equivalent) qualifications.
Our courses (sometimes called pre-employment study programmes), include relevant work experience and are open to young people who:
- have left school
- are aged between 16 and 18 (or 19 and 24 if they have an Education, Health and Care plan sometimes called an EHC plan)
- live in Darlington or the Tees Valley and the surrounding area
- have the right to live and work in the UK.
Classes take place in person at Bennett House, which is in Darlington town centre and some students may also have the opportunity to work from home.
Our main courses usually run for a full academic year (September-July), but we can accommodate applications at any time throughout the year.
Our class sizes are small and we offer personalised support to help learners achieve their goals, along with one-to-one support outside lessons for students whose learning has been disrupted.
Students who have not already achieved grade 4 or above in GCSE English and maths will receive additional help to work towards gaining this qualification or a recognised equivalent.
Sessions run Monday-Friday and are available in the morning (9am-12 noon), afternoon (1-3pm) or for a whole day (9am-3pm). We will agree your timetable with you before you start your course.
