Who is this course for?
This qualification is designed to increase your awareness and understanding of domestic abuse and its impact. The courses is open to adults aged 19+ and tailored to those needing a qualification in this area for their work role.
Entry requirements
- Aged 19+
- Have the right to live and work in the UK
- Reside in the DL or TS postcode area, or within commuting distance of Darlington
What is the curriculum intent of this course?
The intent of this qualification is intended to give learners knowledge to support their professional role in this context. The need for education and training across sectors to enable identification of abuse, allocation of support and referral is a recurring theme within regional domestic abuse strategies.
What will the course cover?
Awareness of domestic abuse and its impact is important for those working in a wide range of sectors such as healthcare, social care, childcare, education, and housing. There is a need to understand the issues, report on those who may be at risk and support redirecting to relevant services. This qualification is intended to give learners knowledge to support their role in this context.
This course is comprised of four units:
- Understand domestic abuse
- Understand the signs and risk factors associated with domestic abuse
- Understand the impact of domestic abuse
- Understand policy, response and intervention in relation to domestic abuse
What could I do when I have finished this course?
You could progress onto one of our many other courses, such as Distance Learning or CPD courses that will be made available to you to support your pathway within or towards employment.
Where and when will I learn?
Starting Tuesday 16 May 2023, 9.30am-1pm at the Coleridge Centre. Mandatory classroom based lessons at the Coleridge Centre, Darlington:
- Tuesday 16 May (first lesson)
- Tuesday 13 June
- Tuesday 4 July
- Tuesday 25 July
All other lessons will take place online via Google Classroom in your own time, no need to change your work schedule.

- a pen (or a digital device) to take notes
- a file to store your work
