Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace

Who is this course for?

This qualification is suitable for learners who wish to raise awareness of mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental health. This qualification gives learners the opportunity to understand mental health, its associated care and how this can be applied to learners or colleagues in the workplace.

Entry requirements

  • Aged 19+
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Reside in the DL or TS postcode area, or within commuting distance of Darlington

What is the curriculum intent of this course?

The intent of this qualification is to give learners the skills to support colleagues with mental health problems. These skills will be gained by increasing the learner’s knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions and the principles of mental health first aid and how this can be implemented in the workplace.

What will the course cover?

The course will cover three sections:

  • Exploring mental health
  • Understanding how to support individuals with mental ill health
  • Understand a mental-healthy environment

You could progress onto one of our many other courses, such as Distance Learning or CPD courses that will be made available to you to support your pathway within or towards employment.

Where and when will I learn?

Term 2
Starting Tuesday 14 February 2023, 1.30pm-5pm at the Coleridge Centre. Mandatory classroom based lessons at the Coleridge Centre, Darlington:

  • Tuesday 14 February (first lesson)
  • Tuesday 14 March
  • Tuesday 4 April
  • Tuesday 25 April

All other lessons will take place online via Google Classroom.

Term 3
Starting Tuesday 16 May 2023, 1.30pm-5pm at the Coleridge Centre. Mandatory classroom based lessons at the Coleridge Centre, Darlington:

  • Tuesday 16 May (first lesson)
  • Tuesday 13 June
  • Tuesday 4 July
  • Tuesday 25 July

All other lessons will take place online via Google Classroom.

  • a file to store your work
