Intensive Support

The Intensive Support Programme began in 2006 and is a unique service. It is currently the only provision of its kind in the country. Our tutors work with your family in your home or another venue chosen by you. We provide a holistic approach to learning, looking at the whole family and the support required to ensure learning needs are met for all members of the family. This learning could include: Family Safety, Positive Parenting, Online Safety, Family Health and Happiness, Happy Families and much more.

How will this service support you and your family?

  • We look at positive outcomes and future goals for you and your family
  • We work on building confidence and self-esteem which leads on to more formal learning
  • We work closely with you and your family with an aim to engage you in specific learning, tailored to your individual identified needs
  • We take into account varied family needs
  • We work within your home and / or local area
  • We provide a bespoke service
  • We introduce you to appropriate group learning and will accompany you on a one to one basis if required
  • It is a quick and easy referral route
  • We link in closely with your referrer, and give regular updates throughout the time you are on the programme with Intensive Support

The aim of the programme is to empower families, giving you life skills and enable you to progress on to further learning, work and to be more active within the local community.

Referral Process

Referrals are accepted from professionals and practitioners involved in supporting families. Self-referrals are also accepted. A postal, telephone or email referral form is available on the website www.darlington.gov.uk/learningandskills. The referral form [word document] for Intensive Support is available here.

Once a referral has been received, a member of the Intensive Support Team will arrange a visit to the family home or a neutral venue. Initial visits are joint with either the referrer or another member of the Learning & Skills team. The tutor will undertake an assessment of the learner’s needs, complete an Individual Learning Plan with the new learner and agree the support to be offered. The referrer will be kept updated throughout the time the learner is on the programme.

If you would like further information, please contact Tammy Firth on 01325 405601 or email [email protected].
