Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for those who would like to improve their cooking skills and look at ways to improve their health and eating habits.
What entry requirements do I need to start the course?
There are no entry requirements for this course, only the enthusiasm to learn in a relaxed, friendly environment.
What is the curriculum intent of this course?
The course will enable you to understand how to cook on a budget, develop skills around control of spending and food comparisons as well as cooking hearty, affordable meals. You will understand how to meal plan and make sensible food choices. You will be encouraged to continue your learning through Functional Skills maths and English as well as other Family Learning courses.
What will the course cover?
Each week, we will focus on different skills. The course covers:
- Making selected recipes
- Costing recipes and shopping tips
- How to deal with fussy eaters
- How to include your children in food preparation safely
- And lots more!
The course will include basic cooking techniques. The first session will include a welcome, induction and discussion of individual goals.
During the course we hope your confidence will be increased, you will meet other people, make new friends and learn something new. A relaxed, informal atmosphere is encouraged. A different activity will be given each week for you to complete at home with your family.
What could I do when I have finished this course?
After this course has finished you may like to join in with other Family Learning courses or adult learning courses, including Functional Skills English, Maths or ICT. You will be given information about other courses and guidance on to progress during this course.
