Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for all parents with children of any age, who would like to explore ways to support their child’s maths at home, regardless of their own mathematical abilities.
What entry requirements do I need to start the course?
There are no entry requirements for this course, only the enthusiasm to learn in a relaxed, friendly environment.
What is the curriculum intent of this course?
The course’s curriculum will encourage you to complete maths in simple, fun ways with your children. It will help build your confidence in maths so you are more equipped to help your children develop their maths skills and support them with homework. It will encourage your progression to further learning such as Functional Skills maths.
What will the course cover?
Each week, we will focus on a different aspect of maths. We discuss the topic, examine its importance and explore how to support your child’s maths in simple, fun ways. You will have the opportunity to trial maths games, look at commercial resources (books, games, toys, apps, CDs) and to make your own learning resources for example, card games, to take home.
The course covers:
- Number lines
- Number bonds and times tables
- Fractions and decimals
- Time and money
- Measurement and ratios
- 2D and 3D shapes
What could I do when I have finished this course?
After this course has finished you may like to join in with other Family Learning courses or adult learning courses, including Functional Skills English, Maths or ICT. You will be given information about other courses and guidance on to progress during this course.
