Police and Crime Commissioner and Tees Valley Combined Authority Mayoral Elections - 2 May 2024

Elections are taking place on Thursday 2 May 2024 for the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Durham Police area and the Tees Valley Combined Authority Mayor

Both elections now use the first-past-the-post voting system. This means everyone votes for one candidate, and the candidate with the most votes wins the election.

Register to vote

To be able to vote in the elections you must be registered to vote.  If you are not already registered, you can do so online.  You need to be registered by midnight on 16 April 2024.

Ways to vote

You can vote in these elections either:

  • In person at the polling station you will be required to show photographic identification (ID).
  • By post.  You will need to apply before 5.00 pm on 17 April 2024
  • By proxy (someone voting on your behalf).  You will need to apply before 5.00 pm on 24 April 2024.

What photographic ID will be accepted?

Gov.uk has a full list of accepted photo ID [external link].

What if I don't have an accepted form of ID?

If you do not have any of the accepted photo ID, and you want to vote at a polling station, you will need to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) or your can apply to vote by post.

Alternatively, you can complete a paper application form.  You must apply before 5.00 pm on Thursday 24 April 2024.
