Tees Valley Local Remediation Acceleration Plan

On 14 June 2017, the fire at Grenfell Tower claimed the lives of 72 people. The tragedy placed a spotlight on the safety of the nation’s buildings and led to an inquiry into the failings of the system that allowed this to happen. As well as identifying the causes of the fire, the Grenfell Inquiry Report – published in September 2024 – made a series of recommendations for ensuring that such a tragedy should never be repeated.

The Prime Minister committed to responding to the recommendations of the report and provided a Remediation Acceleration Plan, (RAP) in December 2024. This plan aims to speed up the work required to remediate high rise buildings with unsafe cladding. 

We are a key member of the Partnership Group that the Tees Valley Mayor has brought together.  The Partnership Group is made up of regulatory bodies in the Tees Valley who ensure buildings are safe. Together, we have developed our own Local Remediation Acceleration Plan (LRAP).

The LRAP details the work of regulators and aims to help accelerate work where needed to make safe any affected buildings within timescales set out in the RAP. The status of these buildings will be reported on the National Remediation System, which keeps a record of all high-rise buildings over 11m in height.  

The Government is supporting our work by providing £50,000 to TVCA to develop, publish and deliver the LRAP. This includes funding for investment in our regulatory teams to drive through the additional requirements set out in out LRAP.
