Keeping Your Area Tidy – Community Litter Pick Success

This May, Housing Officer Charlotte teamed up with Tenant Involvement Officer Matthew and Cllr Curry to carry out a community litter pick in the Rise Carr area.

The group spent the afternoon working together to help improve the local environment, removing litter and helping to keep the neighbourhood clean and welcoming for residents.

Charlotte shared her commitment to continuing this work:
“I am looking at more frequent litter picks throughout my patch. As a Housing Officer, it is important for me to do my bit and help keep the area clean.”

This initiative highlights the positive impact that working together can have within the community. Keeping shared spaces tidy not only improves the look of the area but also helps create a safer and more enjoyable place for everyone.

Residents are encouraged to get involved in future litter picks. If you would like to take part, please keep an eye out for upcoming dates and opportunities to join in.

Let’s continue working together to take pride in our neighbourhood and keep our communities clean.

Estate Inspections – Firthmoor and Lascelles

You may have seen our team out and about recently carrying out estate inspections across the Firthmoor and Lascelles areas.

During the visit, staff were joined in Firthmoor by our fantastic Tenant Panel member, Frank, whose input continues to play an important role in helping to improve our neighbourhoods.

Throughout the inspections, a number of issues were identified and logged, including fly tipping, overgrown trees, and litter. These concerns will now be followed up to ensure appropriate action is taken.

Estate inspections are a key part of maintaining clean, safe, and well-managed communities. They also provide a valuable opportunity for tenants to highlight any concerns and work alongside staff to make improvements.

We would like to thank Frank for his continued involvement and support.

If you see our team out on inspections or would like to get involved, please feel free to speak to us – your feedback helps make a difference.

Skerne Park Engagement and Estate Inspection

It’s been a busy and productive May for the Housing Team, who were out and about in Skerne Park carrying out engagement and estate inspections.

The team had the opportunity to speak with a number of residents, listening to feedback and discussing any concerns within the area. These conversations are an important part of ensuring tenants feel heard and supported in their communities.

It was also fantastic to have a tenant join the team during the estate inspection. Their involvement provided valuable insight and helped highlight areas for improvement from a resident’s perspective.

Estate inspections and engagement visits play a key role in maintaining safe, clean, and well-managed neighbourhoods, while also building stronger relationships with tenants.

Colourful Cottingham

A big well done to the residents of Cottingham Court for creating a truly beautiful garden oasis.

During a recent visit, the communal garden was looking fantastic, full of colour and clearly showing the care and effort put in by residents.

This is a wonderful example of how tenants can come together to create a welcoming and enjoyable outdoor space for everyone to appreciate.

Well done to everyone involved — your hard work has made a real difference and is something the whole community can be proud of.

Red Hall Community Safety Event

A successful Community Safety Event took place in Red Hall in May 2026, organised by Darlington Borough Council Housing Services.

The event brought together a range of key partners, including Civic Enforcement, the Police, Lifeline, Move More, the Income Team, and a local councillor. The day highlighted the strength of partnership working, with all organisations collaborating to support residents and build stronger community connections.

A variety of helpful resources were made available to tenants, including leaflets on Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB), fly-tipping, and Crimestoppers. These resources aim to provide residents with the information they need to report concerns and play an active role in keeping their community safe.

The Housing Team also gathered valuable feedback from residents through surveys, asking what is working well within the community and what improvements they would like to see.

The event was very positively received, with residents sharing encouraging feedback:

  • “Very good for the community”
  • “A great way to meet people”
  • “Good to bring people together”
  • “A chance for everyone to feel heard”

Housing Officer Ryan thanked everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the day, recognising the importance of community involvement in shaping local services.

Events like this demonstrate how working together can help create safer, more connected communities.
