Darlington Borough Council is seeking a Mechanical Sweeper Driver to join our Street Cleansing team. This is a key frontline role where your work will have a visible impact on the cleanliness and appearance of streets, footpaths and public spaces across the borough.
As a Mechanical Sweeper Driver, you will be responsible for operating specialist vehicles to carry out the mechanical sweeping of highway channels, roads, footpaths and other hard standing areas. You will also ensure your vehicle is maintained to a high standard, keeping it clean, tidy and hygienic, while carrying out daily checks in line with the Driver’s Handbook, reporting any issues promptly.
Working as part of the wider Street Cleansing team, you will also help deliver a high-quality service. You will contribute to maintaining excellent standards, support ongoing improvements to the service and represent the Council positively in the community.
Applicants must hold a valid LGV Licence and have around one year’s experience of driving and operating similar vehicles. A sound understanding of the legal requirements relating to mechanical sweepers, including weight limits and compliance, is essential.
