Are you looking for a rewarding role that offers work-life balance and the chance to make a real difference in your local community?.
Darlington Borough Council is seeking to appoint several LGV Drivers to join our Environmental Services Division in the Waste Collection Service.
Working a 4-day working week totalling 74 hours over a 2-week period, our collection services typically operate Tuesday to Friday, starting daily at 7:00am.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a small, community-focused local authority, where our contained rounds cover small geographical areas, making your day manageable and locally impactful.
With limited travel and familiarity, you’ll build a strong connection to the community you serve. You’ll also benefit from working in a supportive team environment, with access to local government pension schemes, generous holiday entitlement, and ongoing development opportunities.
Occasional work on Mondays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays will be required to meet service demands and are regarded as compulsory overtime.
The role includes:
- Driving a range of vehicles requiring a Class 2 LGV licence, including those used for domestic waste, recycling, garden waste, food waste, and trade waste collections.
- Carrying out daily vehicle checks and maintaining vehicles in a clean and safe condition.
- Taking responsibility for the service provided, including allocating tasks to team members and liaising with support teams and customers.
- Completing all required documentation in line with Council and legal standards.
- Undertaking a range of waste-related tasks when required, including waste operative duties.
If you’re a skilled LGV driver who takes pride in delivering essential services and wants to be part of a team that keeps Darlington clean and sustainable, we’d love to hear from you.
The rewards for working at Darlington Borough Council go beyond the salary you will receive; we have numerous additional benefits such as:
- 32 days Annual Leave, plus Bank Holidays, with option to purchase additional Annual Leave (pro-rata for part time working)
- 4 day working week (Tuesday to Friday)
- Access to a generous Local Government Pension Scheme with option to make Additional Voluntary Contributions
- Generous Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave schemes
- Staff equality forums
- Green Car Leasing Scheme
- Access to a wide range of training, learning and development
- Physiotherapy service
- Confidential counselling service
- Great wellbeing offer
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Dolphin Centre Fit for Life Discounts
- Local and National retailer discounts
