Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College present The Art Collective 2.0
Various students from the sixth form college
Runs from: Saturday 23 May 2026 to Wednesday 01 July 2026
This exhibition will host a range of artworks from students across our outstanding A Level Fine Art, Photography, Graphics and Textiles courses, as well as our BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art, Design and Media.
The artworks featuring in ‘The Art Collective 2.0’ form part of students' own personal investigations, as well as pieces they have produced in their own time as creative practitioners. Students have creative freedom in their coursework projects, allowing them to produce quality investigations that are self-driven and express their own interests.
Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College Art Department would like to give special thanks to Dave Fletcher for being the world's greatest art technician and to our amazing students who without their hard work, enthusiasm and creativity this exhibition wouldn’t be possible.
Please note on Saturday 20th June, this exhibition will be open to the public between 1pm and 3pm only.

Exhibition of work by James Lindsey Bird (1903 - 1972)
James Lindsey Bird
Runs from: Saturday 11 July 2026 to Tuesday 29 September 2026
James Lindsey Bird (1903 - 1972) was born in Crook and gained a place at The Royal College of Art in London, where he was a contemporary of Henry Moore (1898 - 1986), and later visited Europe on a Travelling Scholarship. He was the art master at the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Darlington, for twenty years between 1948 and 1968, and is one of our best known artists.
A retrospective exhibition of his work was held at Darlington Library Art Gallery in 1976 and the works in watercolour, oil on canvas, and pastel, by this artist have attracted admiration and positive comment when shared here as part of our Borough Art Collection. We are delighted to host this exhibition containing works kindly loaned for exhibition here alongside works held in Darlington Borough Art Collection, fifty years later.
We hope this exhibition will delight some of James Lindsey Bird's former students in Darlington, delight people who have seen some of his brilliant work before, and that it will introduce his work to others who have not seen it before.
Please contact the Creative Darlington Manager, Stephen Wiper, at [email protected] if you would like to bring an exhibition to Darlington Library.
