Five ways to wellness
1. Connect with other people
Good relationships are important for your mental wellbeing. They can:
- help you to build a sense of belonging and self-worth
- give you an opportunity to share positive experiences
- provide emotional support and allow you to support others
There are lots of things you could try to help build stronger and closer relationships:
- Take time each day to connect with someone, that could be a friend or a family member.
- Try turning off your TV and other devices and swap the screen time for a board game or conversations with others
- Volunteer at a local community venue, charity shop or group.
2. Be physically active
Being active good for both your physical and mental wellbeing. Being physically active regularly can:
- Improve your self esteem
- Change your brain chemistry which can positively influence your mood.
You don’t have to spend hours in a gym to experience positive effects from exercise, try to build activities that you enjoy into your daily routine.
3. Learn new skills
Learning new skills can also improve your mental wellbeing by boosting your self confidence and helping you to build a sense of purpose
You could try taking up a new hobby, or get creative in the kitchen. Even small tasks can improve your mood and wellbeing.
4. Give to others
Giving your time and energy to others can improve your own mental wellbeing
This could include small acts of kindness to other people, or volunteering in your local community.
5. Pay attention to the present moment (mindfulness)
Paying more attention to the present moment can improve your mental wellbeing. Some people call this "mindfulness". Mindfulness can help you enjoy life more and understand yourself better. It can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.
