The Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway

The route of the Stockton & Darlington Railway has not been given the status and recognition which it deserves. The line is of major world historic importance because it was the first steam hauled public railway in the world. All other railways across the world developed as a result of the Stockton & Darlington Railway. This group aims to work to preserve and promote the original 1825 Stockton & Darlington Railway line as an educational, cultural and historic site of international significance and to develop its recreational and tourism potential. The Friends of the S&DR are a registered charity, No. 1177252.
