Borough and Parish Elections - Thursday, 2 May 2019

Local Government (Borough) Elections will be taking place in Darlington on Thursday, 2 May 2019, when residents will be asked to elect a new Council to represent them for the next four years. The Council consists of 50 elected Councillors, who represent 20 Wards within the Borough. Councillors may represent a political party, or local political group, or stand as an independent Councillor. Parish Council Elections will also take place alongside the Local Government (Borough) Elections on Thursday, 2 May 2019. Find out more about being a Borough Councillor or a Parish Councillor.

How can I stand for election?

Nomination Packs for the forthcoming Local Government (Borough) Elections will be available following the publication of the Notice of Election on Monday, 18 March 2019. Alternatively, a 'Candidate's Guide' and a Nomination Pack can be downloaded from the Electoral Commission's website.

Nomination Packs will also be available for the Parish Council Elections following the publication of the Notice of Election on Monday, 18 March 2019.

A pre-Nomination Briefing for prospective candidates will be held at 5pm on Monday, 11th March 2019, where the Returning Officer and the Elections Team will be available to offer advice to those considering standing for election. The Briefing will take place in Committee Room No. 2 at the Town Hall, and anyone thinking of standing for election is welcome to attend.
