Coronavirus – Scarlet Band bus services 16 and 20 suspended

Coronavirus – Scarlet Band bus services 16 and 20 suspended
02 April 2020

Two bus services operating in the borough are to be temporarily suspended as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Scarlet Band Bus and Coach Ltd is to suspend operation of service 16 (The Pink Bus) and service 20 from Saturday 4 April until further notice. This is due to driver availability and reduced demand for the services.

The service 16 operates from Harrowgate Hill to Mowden, via North Road and Hummersknott.  There are alternative bus services, provided by Arriva North East, available on certain parts of the route on North Road and in Mowden.

However, residents who live in Hummersknott and rely on service 16 to make essential shopping trips or to get medication, may need to call on family, friends or volunteers to help. If residents don’t have anyone to call on, we are advising them to contact Darlington Community Support Hub on 01325 405000 - Monday – Friday 8.30am–5pm and weekends 9am–1pm.

The driver of the service 16 will be informing passengers this week and letting them know about the support options.

The service 20, which operates on a Monday only, provides links between the town centre to Sadberge, Bishopton, Little/Great Stainton and Neasham and is also being suspended. The bus company will contact regular passengers to let them know they can use the Tees Flex bus service or to contact the Community Support Hub if required.

Councillor Andy Keir, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for local services, said:

“We know people rely on bus services and we are working with the bus operators to try and maintain a timetable for key workers and essential trips. However, these are very challenging circumstances that we face.

“Passenger numbers have fallen dramatically as people follow Government advice and this has meant Scarlet Band is regrettably temporarily suspending service 16 and 20. Scarlet Band has every intention of reinstating these services when it is able to do so.

“If you have no other way to get essential food or medication then do get in touch with the Darlington Community Support Hub which may be able to help.”
