Cabinet to discuss Covid-delayed Council Plan

Cabinet to discuss Covid-delayed Council Plan
04 November 2020

The council’s long-term vision of Delivering Success for Darlington will be discussed by councillors next week.

The Council Plan was originally presented to and approved by Cabinet in January, followed by a public consultation.

It was due to go before Full Council for approval in the spring. This was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A slightly updated version of the plan, reflecting on the impacts of Covid-19, will be discussed by Cabinet at a meeting on 10 November, before going to full council later this month.

The Council Plan covers the period between now and May 2023.

Councillors’ vision for Darlington is that: it is a place where people want to live and businesses want to locate, where the economy continues to grow, where people are happy and proud of the borough and everyone has the opportunity to maximise their potential.

The plan sets out the council’s priorities:

  • Growing Darlington’s economy
  • Maximising the potential of our young people
  • Supporting the most vulnerable
  • Working with communities to fulfil their potential

The 12-page plan includes an overview of each Cabinet area, with portfolio holders setting out their individual priorities and action plans.

Councillor Heather Scott, Leader of Darlington Borough Council, said: “Darlington’s biggest asset is its people – they make the place what it is. I hope everyone will get behind our plans to make it even better. We should all be proud and talk up the benefits of living and working in such a fantastic place.

“The plan shows our vision and top priorities, and the steps we intend to take between now and May 2023 to achieve that. The plan will be reviewed every year, alongside the council’s budget, to take account of changing circumstances and ensure our plans are affordable.”

Cabinet meets at 5pm on Tuesday 10 November. To watch the meeting online, visit www.darlington.gov.uk/livemeetings
