Reminder of final garden waste collections for 2021
We're reminding householders that the last garden waste collections for 2021 will be carried out next month.
Final collections will take place during the fortnight beginning 6 December.
More than 9,100 households signed up for the service this year and we expect around 2,700 tonnes of garden waste to have been collected by the end of the year, compared to 1,170 tonnes last year. This is recycled and used for agricultural fertilizer and soil production.
Councillor Andy Keir, our cabinet member for local services, said:
“Our garden waste collection service has proved extremely popular with more and more people signing up each year. This year we saw an extra 2,000 sign ups compared to last year’s total of 7,160 and it’s not far from double the 4,800 who took part in its first year.
“The system is obviously now closed for new sign ups but we fully intend to run the service again in 2022, with an annual fee of £37 – which we believe offers great value for money.”
Details of how to renew online, or how to sign up for the first time, will be available in the New Year. For more details about the service visit www.darlington.gov.uk/gardenwaste
Don’t forget you can sign up for an email reminder to tell you when your bin is due to be collected and which bin to put out? If there is a scheduled change to collections like at Christmas, we will remind you of your new date too! To set up reminders log into your My Darlington+ account and go to the 'My Alerts' tab.
