There are lots of plans to mark the historic occasion with celebrations starting on Thursday 2 June and running throughout Friday and Saturday.
A lawn will laid in the Market Square and deckchairs set up in front of a big screen which will be showing Mary Poppins as well as live screenings from London include the Trooping of the Colour and The Party at the Palace.
There will be children’s activities, a double decker bus bar and live music in the Market Square a well as the chance to enjoy an afternoon tea at the Dolphin Centre.
At 9.45pm on Thursday 2 June, we will be lighting one of more than 1,500 beacons in recognition of The Queen’s long service and in the run up to the Bank Holiday, we will be working with volunteers to plant 3,500 trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.
The special weekend ends on Sunday 4 June where everyone is being encouraged to celebrate with their neighbours and local community. Whether it’s having a cup of tea with a friend or hosting a street party, it’s all about celebrating with others as part of the Big Jubilee Lunch.
Heather Scott, Leader of the council, said: “We are delighted to be hosting three special days of entertainment in the town centre to mark the Jubilee. There will be something for everyone and I hope people will come down and join in the fun.
“There are lots of ways to get involved to mark this historic occasion and we will be publicising ways you can be a part of it in the coming weeks.
“Put the dates in your diary and get ready to have a wonderful time with friends, family and neighbours.”
