Time to start planning your Jubilee celebrations

Time to start planning your Jubilee celebrations
02 March 2022

Preparations are underway to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and we want you to get involved!

There are lots of plans to mark the historic occasion, including a big screen, children’s activities and live music in the Market Square over the specially extended Bank Holiday weekend in June.

We will also be lighting one of more than 1,500 beacons across the UK and Commonwealth in recognition of The Queen’s long and service and planting 3,500 trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy creating a lasting legacy for future generations.

Details of all the events will be released nearer the time and as part of the celebrations, residents are being invited to hold street parties and neighbourhood celebrations on Sunday 5 June for The Big Jubilee Lunch

If you want to host a party in your street you need to start planning now, especially if you want to apply to close your road during your event.

There are details of what to do, as well as advice and information on hosting any neighbourhood gathering on our website.

Heather Scott, leader of the council, said: “We have a full programme of events planned for the special Bank Holiday weekend as well as other activities involving schools and the local community to mark this historic occasion.

“Street parties are a great way for people to come together and celebrate - just remember to plan ahead for the Sunday and check out the website for tips and hints.”
