Looking ahead to fireworks 2023

Plans are already underway to build on the great success of last year’s fireworks display at South Park.
Last November, almost 20,000 residents enjoyed an evening of family fun, ending with a breath-taking fireworks display.
The event included fairground rides, performers and a special, quieter show aimed at younger children and those who enjoy a more relaxed experience.
Jonathan Dulston, leader of the council, said: “I am delighted that the return of the South Park firework was such a success. There was a real sense of community with people from across the town coming together for a fun, safe event.
“A large community display like ours reduces the personal use of fireworks which is safer for everyone and also reduces the impact on pet owners and other residents.
“I can’t wait to share with everyone what we have planned for this year – it will be another great, family friendly event to bring everyone together.”
Lee Aspery, community safety and arson reduction manager at County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “We would always encourage people to attend organised firework displays.
“The council’s display was certainly safer and offered greater value for money to families than buying fireworks for a home display.”
This year’s event is planned for Saturday 4 November in South Park – look out for more details coming soon!
