PLANS have been unveiled for a major logistics centre that could bring as many as 3,000 jobs to Darlington.

Developer DB Symmetry has submitted a planning application for a 1.5million sq ft facility on the outskirts of the town.

The 90-acre site is located at the junction of the A66 and Tornado Way, seven miles from Junction 57 of the A1(M) and 20 miles from Teesport.

Simon Dixon, Development Director for DB Symmetry, said: "There is a chronic shortage of high quality, strategically located storage and distribution schemes available in the North East. This new application safeguards the existing outline consent already in place.

“We have an exceptional track record in delivering premium, large-scale developments and we will be liaising closely with all stakeholders to implement a masterplan which will sit well within the area. We are now actively promoting the site.”

Councillor Bill Dixon, Leader of Darlington Borough Council, said: “This has long been a very important strategic site for Darlington and whole North East, with outline planning permission previously approved for employment use.

"I am excited about the potential opportunities that DB Symmetry could bring to Darlington, with jobs and private sector investment into our economy.

"DB Symmetry is a responsible and successful developer operating across the UK, providing commercial space for a broad range of organisations."
