Tees Valley cyclists reach 1 million miles for cycling challenge and more are needed
Next week (Monday 12th March) sees the start of Love to Ride’s ‘Ride to Work Week’, where participants can log their rides on the Love to Ride website for a chance to win a European city break, bike shop vouchers and daily spot prizes throughout the week.

Chemoxy International, a major employer with sites in Middlesbrough and Billingham, joined the challenge in 2015 and now has a large number of staff regularly taking part.
“We get so much out of being involved in the Love to Ride project”, explains Stephanie Thompson, Chemoxy’s challenge ambassador. “As a business, we want to make sure our workforce is happy and healthy and people feel energised and more productive when they’ve arrived by bike. Love to Ride offers an easy mechanism to encourage staff to be more active and the challenge aspect, with lots of opportunities to win prizes, is a great way to motivate people to sign up and continue cycling.”
The challenge, which is free to join, was set up in 2015 in partnership with Local Motion, the sustainable transport project for the Tees Valley.
Speaking on behalf of Local Motion, Georgina Burke says: “We’re thrilled to have so many participants in the Tees Valley, but we need more. All it takes is one 10 minute ride to enter, and we’re asking riders of all levels of experience and fitness to take part.”
Organisations ranging in size from small businesses to global conglomerates are already doing their bit to get more people riding their bikes for everyday journeys to improve their health and wellbeing, and reduce the traffic on local roads.
Collectively, teams have cycled 1,015,517 miles to date on 67,868 bike rides, equal to more than 40 times around the world.
