People of Darlington to walk and run themselves proud for Sport Relief

The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile is back – and it’s coming to Darlington’s beautiful South Park.

The town is set to host its fifth Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 20 March, and needs local people to enter at www.sportrelief.com

The Healthy Darlington Move More Team are offering training sessions for those who would like to take part and are looking for advice and motivation to give it a go. The sessions will be held at Eastbourne Sports Complex with a qualified coach on Wednesday evenings from 6.30-7.15pm starting on 24 February and continuing for 4 weeks.  The sessions cost £1.00 each per session.  All proceeds will go to Sport Relief.

Councillor Andy Scott, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for Health and Partnerships said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in South Park Darlington is here again and it’s your time to walk or run yourself proud. From little ones with their mums and dads, to runners up against the clock there’s something for everyone to make themselves feel proud on this special day.”

“Sport Relief is back from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 March 2016 and there are more ways than ever for you to take part, change lives and feel proud. Whether you get sponsored to enter an event at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games or fundraise with friends and family at home, work or school, you’ll help people living incredibly tough lives.  Half the money raised by the public is spent in the UK, with the other half used to make a difference in the world’s poorest communities.”

Bands will be playing around the park for participants to enjoy while taking in the lovey scenic views and many more attractions will there on the day; including face painting and a warm up session, courtesy of Fit Lab, to get people motivated. Darlington Sainsbury employees will also be volunteering on the day – there promises to be a fantastic atmosphere.
