Darlington is open for business!
Entrepreneurs and small businesses are being encouraged to set up shop in Darlington and join a growing number of independents in the town.
We have launched a new campaign to encourage businesses to move or set up in the town centre. It is hoped the campaign will not only add to the already vibrant mix of businesses in the town centre but will also fill some of the vacant properties in the town.
The campaign includes a video presented by Henry Carver, Director of Carver Residential, part of the Carver Group, setting out all the benefits of doing business in the town, which is available to view at www.enjoydarlington.co.uk/your-visit/join-us/.
With extensive public and road transport links, Darlington is a key economic hub with an average weekly footfall of nearly 290,000 in 2022. A growing events calendar contributes to a lively town scene with a record number of visitors joining us this summer. The establishment of the Darlington Economic Campus has also brought over 1500 civil service jobs to the heart of the town centre.
Significant investment in the town, including the nearly £25 million Towns Fund, has resulted in the transformation of the Yards and Skinnergate and is helping to make Darlington a destination of choice. Further works are planned to redevelop key gateways to the town including Victoria Road, Northgate and Coniscliffe Road.
The refurbishment of the indoor market and modernisation works including free town-centre Wi-Fi and the redevelopment of Darlington Library are also helping to support the growing local economy with the restored historic Hippodrome Theatre and Hullabaloo, the only children’s theatre in the North, attracting visitors from across the region.
