Your chance to look around Number Forty

Your chance to look around Number Forty
26 February 2024

To mark International Women’s Day, the doors of Number Forty, on Skinnergate will open during the day so you can see the support and help it provides to people on a night out.

Number Forty is open from 9pm-3am on Friday and Saturday nights, and 9pm-midight the second Monday of every month for MonGay. Trained security staff and volunteers help anyone who feels vulnerable, unwell or has been a victim of crime.

From charging a phone or giving out bottled water to providing first aid or helping report a crime, the volunteers are on hand whatever the situation.

On Friday 8 March, to mark International Women’s Day, Number Forty will be open from 10am-3pm and again on Saturday 9 March from 10am-2pm. You are invited to have a look around, ask questions and meet the volunteers who make its work possible.

Amanda Riley, cabinet member for stronger communities, said: “The volunteers at Number Forty provide an invaluable service for anyone who needs help on a night out.

“These open days are a great chance for anyone who is interested to pop in, meet some of our volunteers and find out more about Number Forty. Many people who support Number Forty will never have been inside and this is a great opportunity to take a look.”

Number Forty is supported by the Darlington Safer Streets partnership, which includes Darlington Borough Council and Durham Constabulary. It is just one of a number of initiatives implemented to increase safety and the feeling of safety, particularly among women and girls in the town centre.
