Notice of elections published

The official election period for the Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner and Tees Valley Mayoral elections began yesterday (19 March). For Durham Police and Crime Commissioner (which includes Darlington) it begins on Friday (22 March)

All the elections are being held on Thursday, 2 May.

And the elections will now use the first-past-the-post voting system, where you vote for a single candidate, and the candidate with the most votes wins the election.

To have your say and vote in these elections, you need to be registered to vote by Tuesday, 16 April.

It's quick and easy to register online by visiting the dedicated GOV.UK register to vote web page.

An application form to vote by post in England was included in the March issue of One Darlington magazine and any residents in Darlington who would like to apply using this should send their completed forms to the Elections Office, Town Hall, Feethams, Darlington, DL1 5QT.

If you have applied to vote by post, you will receive a ballot paper in the post with a form asking for your signature and your date of birth.

You will need to post the forms back in the envelope provided as soon as possible. If you miss the post, you can take the envelope to your local polling station or to the electoral services office, where you will be required to complete a form before handing it in.
