Hazard
There have been five consumer complaints which arose from a defect whereby cracks occurred in the barrel of the product after a certain firing load, at the point of maximum pressure, in the pull-field profile just after the cartridge chamber. Cracks appear in the external gun barrel over time because of shooting. These are caused by the pressure load and friction of the bullet on the inner surface of the barrel during firing. The cracks can continue from the centre of the barrel outwards towards the outer surface of the barrel as the load increases, so that as the depth of the cracks increases, the remaining strength of the barrel decreases and failure (bursting) of the material can occur during firing. The barrel composition is such that splintering of the barrel is not possible. There is only local bursting on the surface of the barrel at the affected area. There is a small possibility that the bursting could lead to injuries, for example to the shooter's hand, due to gas escaping when the barrel bursts open.
