2023.11.06 Safety Notice: Lyfe Bikes (Front Brake Mount Bolt Issue)

06 November 2023

The following notice appears on the Kinesis website.

Lyfe Front Brake Mount Bolt Issue

After investigation we have found that 162 out of 400 Lyfe bikes specified with Alhonga hydraulic brakes may have the incorrect bolt length fitted. These are the bolts that attach the flat mount adaptor to the threaded mounts in the fork.

Lyfe

Any Lyfe bikes with Tektro brakes are unaffected by this bulletin.

Any Lyfe bike purchased through Wiggle or Chain Reaction Cycles are also unaffected.

Whilst the bolts have proved sufficient in use, it is more likely that thread damage could occur, especially if they have ever been overtightened.

Despite no issues reported during use, we are not willing to take any risks with rider's safety.

What do I need to do?
Your Kinesis UK dealer that supplied your bike will be receiving replacement bolts so that your existing bolts can be replaced. At the same time, the dealer will inspect your fork to ensure no damage is present and that it is safe to use. In the unlikely event that damage has been caused we will collect the fork from the dealer so that your fork can be replaced.

Please ensure that any Lyfe bike you have received with Alhonga brakes has their bolts swapped ASAP. Preferably before being ridden.

The recommended tightening torque for Alhonga flat mount brake calipers remains at 5-7 Nm.

The rear brakes are unaffected by this bolt length issue.

If you have any problems or questions, please contact your Kinesis UK dealer, or us directly at [email protected].

Thank you for taking the time to read this to help ensure your ongoing safety and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Best wishes,
