Our role as Darlington Virtual School

We are a team of dedicated professionals with a wealth of experience across education and social care settings, lead by Head Teacher Calvin Kipling M.B.E. Our role is to:

  • Promote the educational achievement of children looked after by the council.
  • Ensure effective use of pupil premium plus to promote education progress.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to professionals/carers involved with looked after/previously looked after children.

Darlington Virtual School is not an education setting, but a team of people who work to improve the educational outcomes, promote the emotional wellbeing and increase the life-chances for all of Darlington Borough Council’s children who have, or have had, a social worker from ages 2 to Post 16.

Our core principles are of collaboration and mutual respect of the multi-disciplinary teams we work alongside. We base our practice and promote the practice of others with attachment-aware, trauma-informed knowledge at the heart of all we do.

Our vision

Our vision is to ensure that all children and young people who come under the remit of the Virtual School:

  • receive Quality First Teaching resulting in the very best possible outcomes.
  • have a positive educational experience, from EYFS through to Post-16.
  • ensure that their needs are identified, understood and supported through relevant practices such as high-quality Personalised Education Plans (PEPs) and  co-ordinating where required, through the Special Educational Needs Service
  • all agencies work together as a collaborative ‘Team Around the Child’ to maximise educational success and attainment.
  • all schools are supported and empowered with access to training to enable children and young people to thrive.
