The electoral timetable for future elections (as it currently stands) is, as follows:

UK Parliamentary (General) Election
Thursday 6 May 2027
Local (Borough and Parish) Council Elections
Thursday 4 May 2028
Police and Crime and Commissioner Election
Thursday 4 May 2028
Tees Valley Combined Authority Mayoral Election
Local (Borough and Parish) Council Elections
The next Local Government Elections will take place in May 2027 to elect:-
- Local Government (Borough Council) Councillors; and
- Parish Council Councillors.
Residents can vote for who they wish to represent them.
The Elections Act 2022 brought in a number of changes, such as the need for voters to provide photographic ID.

To be able to vote in the May elections you must be registered to vote.
If you are not already registered, you can do so online at the GOV.UK website [external link].
It takes just a few minutes and you will need your National Insurance Number.
50 elected Councillors make up the Council.
They represent 20 Wards across the Borough.
Councillors may:
- represent a political party; or
- local political group; or
- stand as an independent Councillor.
Parish Councils are made up of Parish Councillors.
They do have statutory powers and duties.
Communities expect, and often ask, Parish Councils to voice their views on:
- planning applications;
- local plans;
- other issues.
